Xtra Time Web Desk: Barcelona started their campaign in La Liga with a 4-2 win against Real Sociedad at Camp Nou on Sunday. It was the first match for the Catalans post Lionel Messi era.

A header from Gerard Pique gave Barca the lead in the 19th minute. Martin Braithwaite struck either side of half-time to extend the lead for the home side.

Sociedad pulled one goal back through substitute Julen Lobete in the 82nd minute. Mikel Oyarzabal scored from a stunning free-kick moment later to see the score 2-3 in favour of the home side. Sergi Roberto struck in added time for the hosts, however, to make sure of full points for Ronald Koeman’s side.

Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia, Emerson Royal and Nico Gonzalez made their debuts for Barcelona.

This was the first match for Barcelona after their all time top scorer Lionel Messi joined Paris Saint-Germain last week after 21 years with the Spanish club.
