Kolkata: East Bengal is still has a great chance to win the I-League 2017, believes East Bengal coach Trevor Morgan. Today, in his first training session, after the international break, the East Bengal gaffer took on all his critics who criticized his decision of going back home for holidays as well as his tactics in the last couple of games. He said,”I always love to finish on a high. It’s still anybody’s league I believe. Four matches I have in the I-League and then the Federation Cup. If you have to judge my performance as a coach, judge me at the end of the season.”

The East Bengal coach trained his team at the club ground for the first time in this season and seemed really happy with the conditions of the pitch. He said,”I’m really happy with the ground conditions. It was nice.” At the same time, the coach believes that Mohun Bagan match might just be crucial as he said, “If we beat Mohun Bagan, then there will be only Aizawl who can throw us the challenge to win the title. Considering the fixture they have, they will play two tough games against Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru. So the league is still open.”

The East Bengal gaffer took on the officials as well for not allowing Assistant Coach Warren Hackett to go to Chennai in the last game as he said, “It’s a shame that he couldn’t go to Chennai as he is now forced to sit out five games instead of four. But he knows what he did was not correct and he is repentant.”

The East Bengal coach informed that Wedson will join the training with the team from next Monday and the team will now be focusing on the match fitness. Ivan Bukanya is expected to join on the 1st April. He said, “The players who are not in the national camp, will be training to get the match fitness now. We will then start the training for the matches to come.”

The Red and Gold gaffer also mentioned that the decision of going to the vacations was not abrupt and was taken 6-7 weeks back.
