Kolkata: The defenders of all the teams playing in I League will be on their toes against the deadly strike pair of Mohun Bagan – Darryl Duffy and Jeje Lalpekhlua. Jeje was adjudged the Best Footballer of the Country by All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Wednesday. Duffy, playing his first season for the Mariners has already caught the eyes of everyone with his performance in the Calcutta League.

Although the Mariners will start training from Monday, the Scottish footballer has been training under Mohun Bagan physio Garcia at the Bidhan Nagar ground to keep himself supremely fit for the I League.

Duffy, who was the top scorer during 2013-14 season playing for Salgaocar, has scored 6 goals (include a hat trick against Aryan) for the Mariners in 8 matches in the Calcutta Football League. The former Swansea City striker will no doubt add more firepower to Sanjay Sen’s squad which also boasts of Balwant Singh, Jeje Lalpekhlua along with Sony Norde.

Duffy was excited with the news of Jeje bagging the best footballer of the country award. In a chat with xtratime.in after his training session at the Bidhan Nagar ground, Duffy said, “It’s great to hear him getting the Best Footballer Award. It will be great to strike a pair with him. I am looking forward to playing alongside him and I’m sure we will score a lot of goals between us.”

It will be the first time that Duffy will be playing alongside Jeje in the I League. Asked to comment about Jeje, Duffy said, “He’s very strong and his finishing has improved a lot.”

Meanwhile, Mohan Raj was also seen training under Garcia. The official training session of the Mariners will start from Monday at the club ground.

On the other hand, Mohun Bagan officially recruits Brazilian Eduardo Ferreira on loan from Hero ISL franchise FC Pune City on Thursday. The Green and Maroon officials were in talks with him for the last few days and Edu’s signing will certainly consolidate Sanjoy Sen’s defensive issues.
