JCT FC likely to revive this season

XtraTime Web Desk: Jagatjit Cotton & Textiles Football club (more popularly known as JCT FC) is planning to revive its football team this season. JCT had the honour of winning the inaugural National Football League title in 1996-97 seasons. But the club from Hoshiarpur, Punjab was disbanded in 2011, citing lack of exposure and visibility.

JCT Football Club was a dominant force in club football in the country during the nineties. The club founded in 1971 won many laurels in Indian football. Announcing the good news on twitter, Delhi Football Association President Shaji Prabhakaran tweeted, “JCT FC likely to revive this season. Trials might take place as soon as sporting activities resumes in Punjab.”
He further added, “Punjab football was synonymous with JCT and if it happens local talents from Punjab will get a huge boost.”

It is still not clear when the trials will start but is expected once the pandemic situation is under control. The club had boasted of some big names in Indian football plying their trade with the likes of former India captains Bhaichung Bhutia, IM Vijayan, Joe Paul Ancheri, Tejinder Kumar and current India captain Sunil Chhetri. The club has won many laurels over the years. They had the distinction of winnng the Durand Cup 5 times in the years 1976, 1983, 1987, 1992 & 1996. They also won the Federation Cup twice in 1995 & 1996.
