Kolkata: The inaugural champions of the Indian Super League (ISL), Atletico de Kolkata missed the services of Sikkimese winger Bikash Jairu for a left knee injury, who is also an East Bengal player.

The 24-year-old suffered a minor injury on his leg during training before Atletico played their first game of the season on 2nd October against Chennaiyin at their new home – Rabindra Sarobar Stadium. But, unfortunately he has not been able to play a single match for ATK this season.

Jairu, who turned out for FC Pune City in ISL 2015 was snapped up by Atletico this season after they finished as semi-finalists under Antonio Lopez Habas.

Jairu who is undergoing rehabilitation under Atletico doctor in a South Kolkata Nursing home is tyrying his level best to return to the field. According to Jairu, “I am still not hundred percent fit but my re-hab is going pretty well. I am hopeful within a week i will start sprinting on the field and increase my fitness level gradually.’

Jairu who played a very important part in winning the Calcutta Football league for East Bengal. He is also among the list of very important player for East Bengal Coach Trevor Morgan who is eyeing the I-League title this season.

He also said, “I am very hopeful to join the team from the first match in I-League which starts from 7th of January next year and i have enough time to be able to be match fit.”
