Xtra Time Web Desk: ATK Mohun Bagan Head Coach Antonio Lopez Habas on Friday heaped loads of praises on SC East Bengal ahead of the first derby of ISL 2021-22. According to Habas, SC East Bengal looks a transformed side under new coach Jose Manuel Diaz.

“I think they have a much better side with the change of coach. They also have several new players in the side this season. For us it is a very important match. Our players know the importance of derby,” said Habas during the virtual pre match press conference.

ATK Mohun Bagan squad is bolstered by the addition of Hugo Boumous, Joni Kauko and Liston Colaco this season. On being asked if the new additions will give them an edge in the derby, Habas said, “I would also like to mention that we have Pritam, Amarinder, Tiri and others in my side. It is not about three four players but a collective team. I have to respect the rest of the players in my squad.”

The Mariners won both the derby last season. On being asked whether the green and maroon fans can see a repeat of last season performance, Habas said, “You cannot repeat what happened yesterday. We have to respect our opponent as well. We will try to put up a good show in the derby.”

Talking about his plans ahead of the derby, Habas said, “We have plans for every match. We have to adapt to the conditions for every match.”

SC East Bengal will rely on Daniel Cheema and Antonio Perisevic to score goals in the derby. The later impressed everyone with his skills in the last match against Blasters.

“As a team we will plan to stop our opponent. I am not concerned on any individual players,” said Habas about his team’s strategy against the Red and Golds striker duo.

Sharing his thoughts on Finnish midfielder Joni Kauko, Habas said, “He is a fantastic player with good physical qualities. I think he can produce even better football for us.”

The Spanish coach shared an update about Tiri. According to Habas, “He is recovering and will be ready. No other injuries in the side.”

Finally sharing his message for the Mariners fans ahead of derby, Habas signed out saying “Joy Mohun Bagan”
