IPL 2024: Faf du Plessis, Sam Curran face fines for code of conduct breaches

Xtra Time Web Desk: Royal Challengers Bangalore’s skipper, Faf du Plessis, has been fined with an amount of Rs 12 lakh, while Punjab Kings’ captain faces a penalty of 50% of his match fees, as announced by the IPL on Monday. The penalties were imposed for separate offenses committed during recent matches.

Du Plessis incurred the fine for maintaining a slow over rate during RCB’s narrow one-run defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on Sunday. This marked RCB’s first over-rate offense of the season. According to an IPL statement, “Mr. Faf du Plessis, Captain, Royal Challengers Bangalore has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 36 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on April 21, 2024.”

On the other hand, Sam Curran of Punjab Kings was penalized for dissenting at an umpire’s decision during their match against Gujarat Titans in Mullanpur on the same day. Curran admitted to the offense and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. The loss against Gujarat Titans was Punjab’s fourth consecutive defeat, leaving them in the ninth position on the points table.
