Xtra Time Web Desk : Jharkhand all-rounder Anukul Roy on Monday made his Indian Premier League debut for the Kolkata Knight Riders against Rajasthan Royals, in place of Venkatesh Iyer as he received the official match cap from his fellow teammate, Rinku Singh at the pre match team hurdle.

Coming in from a small town called Samastipur in Bihar, the 23 year old, famously known as ‘Samastipur’s Ravindra Jadeja’ in the domestic cricket circuit is often compared to the latter for their similar playing styles.

A left arm spinner and a left handed batter, Roy has impressed everyone around with his skills including that of Team India coach Rahul Dravid, who backed and selected him in the 2018 U19 World Cup squad, despite of directly joining the team from the rehabilitation, which he was going through back then due to injury.

After proving his inclusion in the team as a successful move, Anukul was then picked up by the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2018 mega auctions for a sum of INR 20 lakhs, and remained in the team for a span of 4 years without playing a single game.

Although, Roy didn’t play for the five time champions, but he impressed everyone with his fielding skills, whenever he was called up on the field as a substitute fielder and was then picked up by the Kolkata Knight Riders in the mega auction for a sum of INR 20 lakhs, earlier this year.
