IPL 2021 : Maxwell shines with Bat as Bangalore registers their second win of the season

Subhabrata Mukherjee: Back to back games on two successive days in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) season 14 played at Chennai saw teams batting second losing the game from a place of almost sealing it as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 6 runs. Viral Kohli and his men registered their second win of the season in as many games.

Earlier today RCB batted first on a slow wicket in Chepauk . They were able to get 149 runs for the loss of 8 wickets from their alloted quota of 20 overs. Captain Kohli and big hitting Australian Glenn Maxwell were the main contributors for the innings. Kohli scored 33 runs from 29 runs. On the other hand ‘big show’ Maxwell was the ‘showstopper ‘ today as he scored his first fifty in IPL after a gap of 5 years. Maxwell scored 59 runs off 41 balls. For Hyderabad Caribbean all-rounder Jason Holder was the star with the ball as he picked up 3 wickets.

Chasing 150 runs to win Sunrisers Hyderabad looked well on course for a victory. Warner and Manish Pandey stitched together a 83 run partnership. Warner scored 54 runs from 37 balls and Pandey was able to score 38 runs from 39 balls. Bangalore spinner Shabaz broke the backbone of Hyderabad batting by taking Manish Pandey,Jonny Bairstow and Samad’s wicket in quick succession. Rashid Khan played a cameo innings of 17 runs from 9 balls but his efforts was not enough as Hyderabad lost the match by 6 runs.
