The Knight Rider’s lost the match by 9 runs to Mumbai Indians and thus missed a golden opportunity to finish in the top two. The Knight Rider’s will now travel to Bangalore to play in the eliminator on Sunday. A satisfying looking Mumbai Indians Captain Rohit Sharma later said, “We wanted to play the brand of cricket we spoke about. Very happy with the players as we proved we have a great bench strength. It can be frustrating to sit out, but all of them have been proven match winners. This was the perfect example of playing a perfect game.” On being asked whether he had any doubts in his mind when the Knights were going great guns in the run chase, Rohit said, “We spoke of finishing on a high. They were going at 10 an over but we kept picking wickets. We were sticking to our plans,we didn't panic. When the batsmen go after the bowlers like that, it can be hard to keep calm but everyone executed well. It's a little tournament we have to play now, the playoffs.” Knight Rider’s Captain Gautam Gambhir thought it was a chaseable total. According to Gambhir, “I thought it was a very chaseable total the kind of wicket it was. Obviously if you would have batted sensibly then you would have chased it down because at one stage we required 25 off 3 overs. Had someone batted sensibly we would have chased the total. There was some irresponsible shots played by our batsmen as we looked like chasing down the total in 10 overs. Everyone was going in and as just throwing their bats. The bowlers did an excellent effort to restrict them to fewer than 180 runs.” On being asked whether they looked too aggressive at the start of the run chase, the KKR captain said, “If I analyse the game here, I thought we could have chased the total in 10 overs. Had a batter batted till the end we would have certainly chased the total down. You cannot expect your bowlers to do the job when you require 9 runs per over. We were one batter short so someone should have taken the responsibility. The Knights will now play in the Eliminator on Sunday. According to Gambhir, “We need to pull up our socks. Obviously if we bat like this it doesn’t matter whether we are in the play-offs or not. If we want to try and win this tournament we got to play sensibly enough. Obviously we have done our bit and now depend on what the other teams do.”
