India tour of Sri Lanka: Huge blow for Sri Lanka as two key players ruled out due to injuries

Xtra Time Web Desk: Sri Lanka suffered a huge blow ahead of the white ball series against India as two of its main cricketers were ruled out due to injuries. Experienced batsman Kusal Janith Perera and fast bowler Binura Fernando were ruled out of the series. As per an official media release from Sri Lanka Cricket,  Kusal Janith Perera will not be able to take part in the ODI and the T20i series against India owing to an injury. The wicket-keeper batsman suffered a right shoulder sprain during training. Fast Bowler Binura Fernando is also ruled out of the ODI series as he sprained his left ankle during a practice session held on Thursday. He had a lateral ligament sprain.

The experienced trio of Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilaka are already out of the series as they are serving a suspension from Sri Lanka Cricket Board as they breached coronavirus rule and breached bio bubble in England.

With Kusal Perera being ruled out it is almost certain that Dasun Shanaka will lead the home team in the series against India. The white ball series will start from July 18 with the first ODI being played at the R Premadasa stadium.
