IND vs NZ: Ravichandran Ashwin goes past Harbhajan Singh to become the third highest wicket taker in tests for India

Xtra Time Web Desk: Ace off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Monday achieved the milestone of becoming the third highest wicket taker in tests for India. Ashwin went past Harbhajan Singh after he dismissed New Zealand opener Tom Latham on Day 5 of the first Test in Kanpur. It took Ashwin’s career tally to 418 wickets while Harbhajan has 417 wickets to his name in the longest format of the game.

Ashwin is the fourth Indian bowler to take more than 400 wickets in Test cricket. The off spinner from Tamil Nadu is behind Anil Kumble (619) and Kapil Dev (434). He is placed 13th in the overall list of wicket takers in test cricket. He jumped past Pakistan fast bowling great Wasim Akram (414) as well apart from Harbhajan on the list.

Ashwin, who made his Test debut in November 2011 against the West Indies in Delhi has also taken 150 wickets in ODIs. His 418 wickets have come in 80 Tests at a strike rate of 52.4 and average of 24.56. Apart from his prowess with the ball, Ashwin is also known for his capability with the bat, scoring 2685 runs at an average of 27.68 with five centuries to his name.
