Igor Stimac names 27-member squad for Intercontinental Cup and SAFF Championships

Xtra Time Web Desk: The Indian football team Head Coach Igor Stimac on Friday announced a 27-member squad for the Intercontinental Cup 2023, set to be played in Bhubaneswar next month followed by the SAFF Championships to take place in Bengaluru in July. The Blue Tigers will be back in action for the Hero Intercontinental Cup 2023 (June 9–June 18) followed by the SAFF Championship 2023 (June 21–July 4).  India, currently ranked 101 in FIFA rankings will face Lebanon (99), Vanuatu (164), and Mongolia (183) in the Intercontinental Cup.

The 41-member probable squad has been training at the Kalinga stadium for the last two days after which the final 27 players are announced by Stimac based on their medical and fitness. Vishal Kaith, Manvir Singh, Yasir Mohammad, Glan Martins, and Roshan Singh have been left out due to injuries. India will continue their camp in Bhubaneswar ahead of the Hero Intercontinental Cup. They will next shift base to Bengaluru for the SAFF Championship.

Here is the 27-member Indian squad:

Goalkeepers: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Amrinder Singh and Phurba Lachenpa Tempa.

Defenders: Subhasish BosePritam Kotal, Sandesh Jhingan, Anwar Ali, Akash Mishra, Mehtab Singh and Rahul Bheke.

Midfielders: Liston Colaco, Ashique Kuruniyan, Suresh Singh Wangjam, Rohit Kumar, Udanta Singh, Anirudh Thapa, Naorem Mahesh Singh, Nikhil Poojary, Jeakson Singh, Sahal Abdul Samad, Lalengmawia Ralte, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Rowllin Borges and Nandha Kumar.

Forwards: Sunil Chhetri, Rahim Ali and Ishan Pandita.
