Internet Desk: Indian National football team goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu made a historic debut league start for Stabaek FC in the 13th round of the 2016 Norwegian top flight Tippeligaen, a first for any Indian in Europe.

Facing Idrettsklubben Kristiansand Start (IK Start), Gurpreet also managed to keep a cleansheet where his team emerged victorious, thrashing the home side 5-0 away from home. With that win however, Stabaek FC still remain in the relegation battle as they only have ten points from thirteen games, making this their third win of the season.

Gurpreet who is the second in the pecking order behind Sayouba Mande, got this opportunity on the back of his recent performances in the cup competition and the reserve side.

The former East Bengal shot-stopper is expected to join the Indian national team in Vientiane as the Blue Tigers fly out to face Laos in the first leg of their 2019 AFC Asian Cup Qualification play-offs on 2nd June in the Laotian capital. The return leg will be played in Guwahati on 7th June.
