Debasis Sen, London: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to announce the name of the new Indian coach after the Special General Meeting on June 26 in Mumbai. It is very unlikely that the board is going to announce the name of the new coach before the Champions Trophy.

The high profile Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman are all set to have a meeting among themselves at the Oval today to discuss on the appointment of new coach of the Indian team. According to senior board official Rajiv Shukla, “BCCI will discuss the issue on June 26 at the Special General Meeting in Mumbai. There is no need to take a hasty decision. The Cricket Advisory Committee will sit among themselves to discuss on the next coach.”

Mr Shukla along with Mr CK Khanna, the acting president of BCCI is here at the Oval to witness the Champions Trophy match between India and Sri Lanka.

It is learnt from reliable sources that all three of them want Kumble to continue with the job. In fact it is the present CAC that appointed Kumble as the coach of the Indian team.

The scheduled meeting of CAC will take place post midnight (IST) with CEO Rahul Johri expected to co-ordinate the meeting. It is learnt that CAC members will decide whether there is any need to conduct interviews or straightaway renew Kumble’s contract.

The meeting will take place once the match between India and Sri Lanka gets over here at the Oval. Both Laxman and Ganguly are doing commentary for this match.

“The meeting of Cricket Advisory Commitee will take place today after the match here in one of the boxes at the Oval”, confirmed acting BCCI president CK Khanna to xtratime.in

The news of skipper Virat Kohli’s alleged difference with Kumble has been making rounds for some time now. The BCCI invited applications for coach’s post and even a section of officials, who are anti-Kumble convinced Virender Sehwag to apply for the post.

In fact, many in BCCI believe that Virender Sehwag has the least chance to make it especially after his two-line CV that has not gone down well in some quarters.

Tom Moody with his cool demeanour still has a better chance than Sehwag if the CAC decides on going ahead with interviews.
