Image Source: twitter[/caption] Kolkata: A few days back legendary Indian batsman Rahul Dravid told the media that the time has come to take decisions with focus on the 2019 World Cup which also includes a call on the role of the veteran players like former India skipper MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh in the current squad. In last 10 and 8 ODI matches respectively MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh scored 284 and 315 runs with an average of 40.57 and 52.05. MS Dhoni’s highest score was 134 in Cuttack against England and Yuvraj Singh’s highest score of 150 too came in the same match. A few renowned former selectors shared their thoughts with www.xtratime.in regarding the future of Dhoni and Yuvraj. Here are the excerpts: Dilip Vengsarkar: They both are match winners on their days, but now you have to focus on the 2019 World Cup. During the CB Series against Australia in the year 2007, Dhoni was the captain of the team. I was the Chairman of the selection committee on that time. Dhoni told me that a few senior players are a bit sloth and they should be replaced with some young players. He told  if we want to do well in the 2011 World Cup, it was eminent. Now I am saying the same thing that in this side a few players have become sloth in the field and they should be replaced with the young guns. I think Virat should think about it right now and according to me young Rishabh Pant is the idle candidate to replace Dhoni in the limited overs format. Though Dinesh Kartik has scored a lot of runs in the domestic cricket last season but Pant is the ideal candidate to represent India in the shorter format of the game. Yuvraj should be replaced by Manish Pandey right now. Unfortunately Manish couldn’t play the ICC Champions Trophy due to an injury and I think he is the perfect replacement for Yuvraj Singh before the 2019 World Cup. Raja Venkat: The selection of Yuvraj Singh in the ICC Champions Trophy was a blunder. Once upon a time Yuvraj was a brilliant fielder at point, cover or extra cover but now he is not hitting the ball that well and watching his fielding now is really painful for anybody. In the ICC Champions Trophy Virat had to hide him on the ground. I think a player like Yuvraj must be replaced before the 2019 World Cup. MS Dhoni was a match winner like it was few years back and according to me he is the best wicket-keeper that India has ever produced. But his batting is not that good right now what it was a few years back. When he played for Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, I had seen that he was not hitting the ball that well. Dhoni is well aware of his abilities than any other and I think it is also in his mind that whether he can continue his career till 2019 World Cup. He is not that type of a guy who holds his place in the team. If he thinks that it is the right time to hang his boots he will leave his place for the youngsters. According to me the selectors should try Rishabh Pant or Sanju Samson in place of Dhoni. I think depending on Kedar Jadav too is a waste of time. He will be 34 years of age during the 2019 World Cup and the selectors should try the young players who are doing well in the domestic cricket. Kiran More:  I was the head of the Chief Selection committee when Dhoni got his chance to play for India. I think he has a lot to give to the Indian cricket. The Indian team has no replacement in place of Dhoni right now. Yuvraj went through a lot of ups and downs in his career. According to me after recovering from cancer he returned to cricket much quicker than the estimated time. The selectors might have thought that Yuvraj would do well after returning from the life threatening disease, but if they had told him that take your time and return to cricket after reaching your full fitness, he might have done a lot better. According to me it is the right time for the selectors to search for Yuvraj’s replacement. Shivlal Yadav: I think it’s time to replace Yuvraj with a young player before the 2019 World Cup. He last played a good innings in the England series after that he did nothing for the side. Dhoni is a brand on his own and his suggestions to Virat Kohli inside the ground are helping the skipper a lot. Dhoni is sharp from the others behind the wicket and he should play till the World Cup. Madan Lal: I think Dhoni has a lot to give to the team. He is a complete cricketer and his finishing skills will help India in a big tournament like the World Cup. I think the selectors and skipper Virat Kohli will decide Yuvraj’s fate and the series against West Indies will be a crucial test for him.
