Kolkata: Mohun Bagan team management suffered a blow as their star marksman Sony Norde has torn a cartilage in his knee. According to the MRI reports, the Haiti footballer has suffered a meniscal tear. Norde, who recently met noted orthopaedic surgeon Dr Ananta Joshi in Mumbai is confident of playing in his team's next I League tie against DSK Shivajians on February 18.
According to noted orthopedic surgeon Dr Kalyan Mukherjee, “This kind of injury takes few days time to recover. The more a player takes rest the better is the chance for him to recover soon.”
Back to back draws against East Bengal and Mumbai FC has suddenly wiped away the smiles on the Mohun Bagan footballers. The Mariners, who find themselves placed in the second place in I League table, are now on 18points from 8 matches. But more than the draw, Coach Sanjay Sen seemed to be more concerned with the knee injury which is troubling his star footballer Sony Norde.
The Kolkata giants have lost 4 points from their last two matches. Coach Sanjay Sen would feel lucky to have returned from Mumbai with one point. Speaking to the reporters on his return from Mumbai, Sanjay Sen said, “We had hoped for a win in Mumbai. But unfortunately that did not happen. It would have been ideal to have got 4 points. But it is a marathon league and there will be ups and downs as well.”
The Mariners who started the season with a bang, winning four matches on the trot shared their first points with DSK Shivajians. Good thing for Bagan though is arch rivals East Bengal and Bengaluru FC also failed to win their respective matches.
But the biggest concern for Bagan coach is the knee injury to Sony Norde. The Haitian marksman is being troubled with his knee lately. But in spite of his injury, he played the derby and also the last match against Mumbai FC yesterday. Norde was taken to Dr Anant Joshi ahead of the Mumbai FC tie, following which he was kept in the playing eleven by Coach Sanjay Sen.
According to Sanjay Sen, “I kept him in the team only after being told that he is fit to take the field. I am not concerned about his injury as I have 29 players in the side.
Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan’s match against Shillong Lajong on February 25 has been postponed to April 12 after the I League committee received a request from the club since they have an AFC Cup match coming up on February 28.
