Internet Desk: Rio Olympic Silver medalist PV Sindhu won her first round match of the Denmark Open Super Series last night. World No. 8 Sindhu, who was playing her first match since her silver medal at the Rio Games in August, defeated world No. 11 Bingjiao 21-14, 21-19 in the opening match of the Super Series Premier badminton tournament.

The 21-year-old Indian will now face Sayaka Sato of Japan in the second round of the competition.

“Olympics have given me a lot of confidence and with the same confidence I hope I would go further. Responsibilities will always be high from now on. It’s just that I shouldn’t take much of pressure and play my game. I just want to go to the court and give my 100 per cent,” said Sindhu.

The girl from Hyderabad, who won two bronze medals at the World Championships, defeated three top players en route to her silver medal but interestingly her best performance at any Super Series tournament has been a runner-up finish at Denmark Open last year.

HS Prannoy and Ajay Jayaram also advanced to the second round in the Men’s Singles event. In the first round, while Prannoy defeated Malaysian qualifier Wei Feng Chong, Ajay cruised to the next round beating Thailand’s Boonsak Ponsana. Sai Praneeth, however, made an exit with his first round loss.
In the men’s doubles section, it was curtains for the duo Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy in the first round.
