Commonwealth Games 2022: PV Sindhu, Lakhshya Sen wins gold in singles; Satwik-Chirag too win doubles gold

Xtra Time Web Desk: It was a great day for Indian badminton as they won all three finals. PV Sindhu defeated Michelle Li in straight gamaes 21-15, 21-13 to win gold. It was a redemption for PV Sindhu. After losing the CWG gold medal match to Saina Nehwal in 2018, she converted the colour to gold this time. In a lop-sided final, she beat Canada’s Michelle Li 215-15, 21-13.

In the men’s singles Lakhshya Sen beat Malaysia’s Ng Tze Yong – 19-21, 21-9, 21-16 . It was a great comeback victory for Sen. It was the maiden gold for Lakhshya. He lost the first game narrowly 19-21 to NG Tze Yong. But in a supreme comeback, he demolished Yong in the 2nd game 21-9 to force the gold medal match in the decider. However, Yong could not sustain the pressure and it was Lakshya’s confidence that took a toll on Yong. In the end, Lakshya raced to a 21-16 scoreline and win his maiden gold medal at the CWG.

Chirag Shetty and Satwikraj Rankireddy have made it triple GOLD in badminton on final day of Commonwealth Games 2022. Chirag-Satwik beat England’s Lane-Vendy pair 21-15, 21-13. The Indian pair won the third gold of the day from badminton.
