The Goan club was reinstated in the I League by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) recently after an order from Delhi High Court. They were thrown out of the league in 2014 by AIFF after it failed to comply with AFC licensing criteria. The former I League champion club is likely to appoint Joseph Afusi who was with them in 2014. The Nigerian who burst to fame coaching Bangladesh Premier League club Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi, left Churchill Brothers mid-way into the season after it became apparent that the club had no chance of playing in the I-League. Also set to make a return with Churchill Brothers is Anthony Wolfe. The Trinidadian will be the marquee footballer for his side. Wolfe was with Churchill Brothers in 2013 for a season before moving to Sporting Clube de Goa. The Goan club is likely to recall some of its former players Saran Singh and Yumnam Raju. There is a possibility that Mohun Bagan striker Balwant Singh may also make a return to his former club. With less than a month to put together a squad, the Churchill management is in the lookout for recruiting quality foreign players. Churchill Brothers, who are currently playing in the Goa Pro League, is languishing at the 8th position with just 3 wins from 15 matches. Coach Alfred Fernandes, who will be the assistant to Joseph Afusi is currently scouting for players. At least three FC Goa footballers are linked with joining the I League club. Romeo Fernandes is one of them who may be seen in action for Churchill Brothers. With three Goan clubs – Dempo Sports Club, Salgaocar FC and Sporting Clube de Goa – pulling out of the I-League, Churchill Brothers are now Goa’s sole representatives.
