Internet Desk: It seems Saina Nehwal is yet to recuperate from her knee surgery which occured in august this year. As her woes in 2016 continued as she lost to unseeded Thai player Porntip Buranaprasertuk in the first round of the China Open. Having lost the first game 16-21, Saina bounced back in style and won the second game 21-19 but showed rustiness in the final game to lose 14-21 and crash out of the tournament. It was a tight contest and the match lasted close to an hour.

On the other hand there’s good news for 2016 Rio Olympics silver medalist PV Sindhu as the seventh seed, won her opening game in style by defeating Chinese Taipei’s Lee Chia Hsin 21-12, 21-16 to advance to the second round.

Saina has been plagued by a knee injury which resulted in her defeat in the first round of the Rio Olympics. Just days before the China Open, Saina admitted that her career might come to an abrupt end.

“Many people will think my career will end and I won’t come back. I also think somewhere deep in my heart that maybe it is the end of my career, so let’s see how it is. It is just about how to take care of my body and be in good shape because these injuries are quite painful,” Saina had said earlier after the her surgery.
