Internet Desk: Everyone was looking forward to India’s star top order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara on the fifth and final day of the second Test match between South Africa and India at Centurion as was chasing a big target of 287 to level the series. But proving everyone wrong he ran himself out at the very first on Day 5 which can be termed as a suicidal run out on that situation.
With this he created an unwanted record today as he became the only Indian cricketer who has been run out in both the innings of a Test match. The same thing had happened back in 200 when New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming was run out in both the innings. Pujara has become the 25th batsman in the world who was run out in both the innings of a Test match.
Pujara was trying to complete his a third run along with his partner Parthiv Patel. He is well known as a slow runner and he was run out by the combo of Lungi Ngidi, AB de Villiers and Quinton de Kock. He was just inches short of the crease and departed for only 19 runs.
He was run out in the same fashion in the first innings when he was yet to open his account in the first Test as a direct throw from the debutant Ngidi rattled the stumps when Pujara was short of his crease.
The commentators were in shock as Michael Holding reacting in commentary saying, “Pujara is not the quickest between the wickets – in fact, that’s being kind. He’s ultra slow.”
