Chess For Youth : Deborshi Mukherjee Emerge As Champions

Kolkata : Deborshi Mukherjee edged out IM Diptayan Ghosh on tie break to emerge as the champion in the premier section in the 10th edition of Siddha Chess Youth Championship which concluded at Khudiram Anushilan Kendra on Sunday. The championship , which attracted over 700 participants was organised by Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy  and Allsport Foundation.

Both Deborshi Mukherjee and Diptayan Ghosh tied on 6 points, but Deborshi was declared winner on account of his better Buchholz score. For his efforts, Deborshi received a glittering trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 25,000/-.

IM Diptayan Ghosh , who earlier beat overnight leader , Swayams Mishra of Odisha beat his school mate Mitrabha Guha in the final round and had to be content with the 2nd prize of Rs18,000/-.

IM Swayams Mishra drew against his state-mate GM Debashis Das to take the 3rd spot with 5.5 points, while  top seed Debashis Das , who also scored 5.5 points was placed 4th.

Rounak Pathak was placed 1st in the U-16 section  with 6 points while Rishiraj Baul took the second spot also on 6 points.

Sport Minister Mr Arup Biswas was the chief guest on the occasion and gave away the prizes. Also present were Mr Joydeep Karmakar , eminent shooter, Grandmaster Neelotpal Das , International Master Atanu Lahiri.
