CFL 2017: Barreto gets a perfect birthday gift from Mohun Bagan

Kolkata: Kolkata giant Mohun Bagan extended their winning streak when made it 5 out of 5 wins as they comfortably defeated Tollygunge Argagami 2-0. As the match ended Subhash Bhowmik was seen walking of with his head held down however the only the name which stood out was “Barreto”. The Brazilian walked into the field after the game to celebrate his birthday and it can be said, his name is enough to make people forget that his beloved team won the game.

The stadium was jam packed a couple of years from the starting of the game. A large number of people of didn’t get an opportunity to get into the field watched the game at the mega screen held just outside the stadium organized by the fanzone. A huge crowd also gathered up the entire rampart which usually remained empty in recent years.

Facing a tough opposition managed by Subhash Bhowmik and having a deadly striker with the likes of Anthony Wolfe, the Mariners easily packed the game with goals from Kromah and Nikhil Kadam.

The first game came in the 17th minute after a brilliant combination from Kamo and Kromah. Kromah scored a gem of a goal from a volley while the last goal came in the 86th minute. Two substitutes were the architects of the goal. Nikhil Kadam finished the ball at the back of the net after a centre from Pintu Mahato.

Despite leading in the first half, the Green and Maroon brigade took time to get the ensuring goal owing to some brilliant defending by Chikawali and Dipak Mondal. However a couple of powerful shots off Kamo missed the targets by inches. On the other hand Bagan goalie Shibinraj looked uncomfortable as he often fumbled in the box.

Barreto’s birthday was celebrated in the field as he was presented with 40 roses. A lot of fans tried to entire the field however strong action from the police prevented the situation. In the end it can be said the Bagan fans had a gem of a day with celebrating the win of the team with their beloved ‘Green Parrot’s’ birthday.
