Xtra Time Celebrities and ex-footballers react as the dismal condition continues in Kolkata football. Xtra Time[/caption] Kolkata: The recent turmoil regarding the CFL derby between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan has already created a negative buzz among all the supporters who think East Bengal and Mohun Bagan to be the source of their existence. The prestigious IFA Shield which has the connection of India’s freedom fighting movement as well. Tournament which has been one of the oldest football tournaments in the world has almost lost its charm and existence. The glamorous tournament has now become a mere U-19 affair. Even the two Kolkata giants do not give importance to the IFA Shield these days. Now the question is who is responsible for this? The two historic clubs of Kolkata Maidan East Bengal and Mohun Bagan cannot ignore the ongoing consequences. For the last three years a leading broadcasting channel has been doing the production of CFL and has been a big hit with their innovative ideas. The production was a super-hit for the three consecutive years. But they were also backed out owing to some non-professional attitude from the Kolkata giants as well as the system. The regular insists of the two giants created a lot of mess in frequent rescheduling of the CFL matches which became a trend in Kolkata. The supporters, especially the young generation who claimed to be the loyal fans of both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan have started a practice of using slangs and insulting words against the rival fans. The things are going out of control day by day. The latest incident of Dipen Karmakar which happened few days has raised a new concern in the culture of Kolkata football. The slangs used by the supporters have prevented a lot of female supporters from visiting stadiums as they fear of doing so. Even celebrities too turned their faces from Kolkata football which was once their platform of entertainment. We have also seen officials from both the clubs has a tendency of creating a chaos when referees give decisions against them and try to provoke the crowd in the ground and create a pressure on the referees. They have only one way of showing protest either by withdrawing their team or somehow provoked the audience so that match gets abandoned. In the 70s, 80s and 90s we have seen showing some lame excuses they have pulled out of matches in the middle. Xtratime.in tried to take the reactions who brought up from their childhood as a fan of either East Bengal or Mohun Bagan: Upal: Its very unfortunate with the way Bengal football has been going on at the moment. It is a crisis situation for Bengal football. There was a time when the Bengalis used to think of becoming superstars like Surajit Sengupta, Krishanu Dey, Chuni Goswami, PK Banerjee, Prasun Banerjee. But these days, we don’t even think about it. We hire players from Brazil, African countries and also from different states of the country. The majority comes from the North East. East Bengal and Mohun Bagan’s existence is entirely dependent on their supporters. If you deceive them, then what will be left? After this incident, regarding the derby in future, if I-League and CFL get shut down the they won’t have any point to indict anyone. Shirshendu Mukherjee: Its a very sad story. If Kolkata football goes down like this, it will be a big upset or rather a big blow to Indian football as well. Mohun Bagan and East Bengal are traditions. I heard East Bengal was ready to play but Mohun Bagan wanted to defer. Indeed, unfortunate from the supporters point of view. Chuni Goswami: It is very unfortunate and a  very sad day in Bengal football. The grandeur and heritage of Kolkata football are eclipsed. Prasun Banerjee: This is the fault of the parent body. Until and unless the parent body becomes strict on these two clubs it will continue. It has been a habit which we are witnessing since last two years. But I still believe, the knot  will open up sooner or later. PK Banerjee: It has drawn an ending line to Indian football as well as Bengal football. The three Kolkata clubs has committed suicide. During our days, IFA was more powerful and we were bound to listen to them but nowadays the IFA has to obey both the clubs which is ridiculous. This had resulted in the value of IFA will go lower after this incident. I997 Diamond derby was viewed by more than 1lakh crowd. From here on, its a big question mark on how these two clubs will survive in the ISL and will they keep on showing their dominance in ISL too as it seems these officials of the two giants will try to keep on continuing this dominance in the marquee league.
