Kolkata: India’s football icon Bhaichung Bhutia welcomes Bollywood superstar Salman Khan as the Goodwill ambassador for India in the Rio Olympics 2016. Bhaichung feels that Salman Khan is more popular than the only Olympic Gold medalist shooter from India Abhinav bindra. Bhaichung said, “Apart from cricket, no other sports in India can draw public attention.” He said, ”Bollywood sells everywhere”.
Former India captain commented on the federation which is going to commence from this weekend. He feels that the format of the Federation Cup this time around is a tricky one as the teams will have to play in home-away basis where each match will be a knock out match just like the FA Cup in England. Former East Bengal and Mohun Bagan forward is putting his bet on top three teams of the I-league this season East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC.
The former striker from India feels that to improve the quality of Indian football infrastructure needs to be improved at first. He also feels Indian football clubs needs to be much more professional like Bengaluru FC. He added,” This is because of BCCI that cricket in India is so popular and events like IPL are making a mark worldwide.”
