BCCI willing to extend Dravid’s tenure for a long term, final decision after South Africa tour, says Jay Shah

Xtra Time Web Desk: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will take a final decision on Rahul Dravid’s tenure after he returns from the tour to South Africa. The board is willing to give a long-term extension to Dravid. The former India captain has been given an extension until the T20 World Cup in June with the board citing a lack of time for an interim decision.

“We did not have time. We met with them and mutually agreed that he can continue. Once they return from South Africa, we will sit with him and decide on the tenure,” BCCI Secretary Jay Shah told reporters in Mumbai on Saturday.

Dravid’s original coaching tenure was slated to conclude after the ODI World Cup, which ended on November 19. However, the BCCI extended his role for the South Africa tour. The decision on the long-term tenure for Dravid and his coaching staff is now expected to be made upon their return next month.

The delay in the decision may stem from the BCCI’s desire to evaluate Dravid’s performance and the team’s results during the challenging South Africa tour before committing to a long-term arrangement. Indian team will be eyeing its first ever test series win in the rainbow nation. On their last tour to South Africa, Virat Kohli led India lost the test series 1-2 despite winning the first test in Cape Town.
