BCCI extends Rahul Dravid’s contract till T20 World Cup next year

Xtra Time Web Desk: Rahul Dravid’s tenure as the head coach of the Indian cricket team has been extended until the conclusion of the Twenty20 World Cup in June next year. The extension comes following successful negotiations between Dravid and the top brass of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over the past few days. Sources familiar with the matter have confirmed that the extension will be reviewed after the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the US, which is scheduled to take place from June 3 to June 30.

Dravid’s initial reluctance to continue as coach required some convincing, but the BCCI was keen on securing his services, especially after India’s commendable performance in the World Cup, where they exhibited a distinctive brand of cricket. While there is a possibility that Dravid may not accept an extension post the Twenty20 World Cup, the BCCI has bought some time on the matter.

The extension is expected to apply to other support staff members as well, with their contracts undergoing review after the T20 World Cup. The BCCI appears confident in the current coaching setup, and the focus now shifts to the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and USA, with Dravid leading the coaching set-up.
