ATK Mohun Bagan thrashes Sri Lanka’s Blue Star SC by 5-0 in the AFC Cup Preliminary round

Xtra Time Web Desk : ATK Mohun Bagan on Tuesday sealed a thumping 5-0 win over Sri Lanka’s Blue Star SC in the preliminary round of the AFC Cup, which was hosted in the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan after a long gap due to COVID-19.

Missing their talismanic striker Roy Krishna due to family reasons, Juan Ferrando’s team didn’t let the fans and viewers to realize the absence of his as they played some fantastic pressing football to put their opponents Blue Stars from the start of the match itself.

The constant pressing from the Mariners turned into success when star midfielder Joni Kauko scored the team’s first goal with a brilliant move from.

Within moments of the first goal, Manvir Singh struck for the second time to double his team’s lead before Joni Kauko again scored from a penalty to make it 3-0 for the Green and Maroon before half time.

Although the Sri Lankan champions created few chances but couldn’t take them in the first half.

In the second half though, the Mariners attacked with even more force and came all guns blazing at their opponents which again resulted in a David Williams goal in the 77th minute before Manvir scored his second goal of the night to make it 5-0 for ATK Mohun Bagan at full time.
