Image Source: AIFF[/caption] Kolkata: The prolonged discussion regarding a proposed merger between I-League and ISL has certainly been long and protracted, but there is every possibility that the revamped league could be up and running from next season. Aizawl’s epic I-League win has threatened to scupper the plans of AIFF and IMG-R, who are planning to make ISL the top tier league of India. As per reports, only Mohun Bagan, East Bengal and Bengaluru FC among the I-League clubs stand a chance of playing in the restructured league, leaving champions Aizawl in a limbo. But there lies the concern. If Aizawl is forced to play in the second tier league despite being the champions of the country, it could easily be the most unfortunate thing in not only Indian football, but also for the club who fought quite brilliantly to win the obstacles which came on their way to make the impossible possible. If they are forced to play in the second tier league, then It could also possibly be the first time ever, a club will play in the second division, despite representing the country in the continental championship. The Aizawl FC side has also threatened the AIFF that they will go for further protests at FIFA, AFC and AIFF offices if they don't allow the highlanders to play in the highest league of the country. They have also threatened the parent body of Indian football to go for hunger strikes if they don't allow them to play in the revamped league. The AIFF General Secretary Kushal Das told www.xtratime.in , "Aizawl FC has submitted their formal claim to AIFF to continue in the top league. They have also shown their gratitude to us for allowing them to play in the I-League this season. If there is any new league, we will discuss about it. But as of now I can't say much." Aizawl FC President Robert Royte told XtraTime, "Our demand is very clear. If we are not allowed to play in the highest league, we will take all the possible actions. The AIFF should be ready for that. We have defeated all the odds and now the champions of India. The fans are getting angry and frustrated to know that they might not play in the top league. But as we have mentioned on our Twitter handle, we won't sacrifice our glory." Though The AIFF Senior Vice President Subrata Dutta said, "Allowing them to play in the top tier league is not on our hands. It's the IMG-Reliance who takes the decision, not The AIFF." Now it is to see in which direction the situation moves. The strength of the protest of the new I-League is getting stronger.
