Internet Desk: Rebekah Vardy, the wife of the Leicester City striker Jamie, has been forced to defend herself from abuse on social media after Arsenal’s interest in signing her husband was made public.
The north London club expect to complete their surprise move for the England international in the next 24 hours, having met a release clause believed to be in the range of £20 million.
Vardy scored 24 goals in the Premier League last season to lead Leicester City to their first Premier League title. Arsene Wenger is determined to get all of his business done before the start of the European Championship, having failed to sign a single outfield player last summer.
Arsenal have already completed a deal worth more than £30 million, having signed Switzerland midfielder Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach.
The north London side are also keen to bring in a centre-back to rival the ageing Per Mertesacker. A £750,000 bid for Bolton Wanderers defender Rob Holding has been rejected, though the 20-year-old would be unlikely to go straight into the first team.
