Internet Desk: What the young athletes of India could not do, the 100years old did. Man Kaur made India proud winning the Gold Medal in 100m at Americas Masters Games in Vancouver. She is of 100years age.

It is rare to see any Indian athlete winning a Gold or at least a Medal from any worldwide summit. This time Man Kaur made it possible as she was the competitor of her age group in the women’s category.

It was not a mere show off for Kaur as she completed the sprint by one minute and 21seconds. When she crossed the finish line in Vancouver, her competitors many of them in their 70s and 80s were there to cheer her on.

Gurudev Singh, who is also a competitor of this Games, is the son of Man Kaur. He is the main inspirational force behind the centenarian.

“I asked her. ‘You have no problem, no knee problem, no heart problem, you should start running,’” recalled Gurudev.

The resident of Chandigarh not only surprised and inspired other by winning the 100m Gold, she enriched her tally by claiming the Gold Medals from javelin and shot put.

The athletic life of Kaur is inspiring indeed as she started running at the age of 93 by the instruction of her son. Till then she had won 20 medals in Masters Games across the globe.

Mr. Singh said his mother believes in promoting running to other older women. But it was unfortunate as she could not react as she was gasping for a breath and clutching the water bottle from the hand of her son.

Masters Games is the only meet for which Kaur waits through out the year. She maintains her lifestyle since she started running for the Masters Games. Gurudev Singh said his mother believes in promoting running to other older women.

“She encourages them, old ladies, that they should run, they should not eat wrong foods, and they should encourage their children also to take part in the Games.”

The World Masters Games take place every four years, with regional games in between. The Americas Masters Games in Vancouver is the first summer regional games in North America.
