Xtra Time Web Desk: Zinedine Zidane has resigned as the manager of La Liga giants Real Madrid, according to media reports. The news comes two days after Real failed to win the La Liga title. It was a disappointing campaign for the 13-time European champions, who also lost to Chelsea in the Champions League semi-finals as they failed to win a trophy for the first time in 11 seasons. The Los Blancos were also shocked in the last-32 of the Copa del Rey by fourth tier outfit, Aloycano.

The news was first broke by Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano. He tweeted, “Zinedine Zidane has communicated tonight to people who work around him and players that he’s 100% leaving Real Madrid. Confirmed,”

The Frenchman won 11 trophies in his two spells as Real manager, including two La Liga title and three Champions League triumphs. Real Madrid will now be searching for Zidane’s replacement.

Massimiliano Allegri has been linked with the role in the past, while Antonio Conte could be a contender after leaving his role at Inter Milan earlier on Wednesday.
