Xtra Time Web Desk: Former India World Cup winning cricketer Yuvraj Singh has suggested split captaincy for Team India. According to the southpaw, India can try split captaincy if the team management feels there is too much workload on Virat Kohli who is currently leading the side in all 3 formats in international cricket.

The left-hander feels his Mumbai Indians teammate is the ideal person to lead the country in the shorter format.

The Mumbai cricketer is currently the vice-captain of the Indian team in ODI’s and T20I’s and has successfully lead Mumbai Indians to four Indian Premier League (IPL) titles. He has also led India to Asia Cup 2018 title in Dubai in the absence of Kohli.

Yuvraj also added it will be the prerogative of the Indian team management whether they feel the need of a split captaincy.

According to Yuvraj, “I don’t really know. They have to decide how much workload Virat can take. Do they need to try somebody else for T20? It completely depends on how they want to go for the future. Virat has been the best batsman. How to manage his workload? It is completely team management’s call.”

Unlike several top teams, including England, Australia and South Africa, India have Kohli as the captain in all three formats of the game. While Rohit Sharma is the deputy skipper for Kohli in limited-overs cricket, Ajinkya Rahane is the vice-captain of the Test team.

“Earlier there were only two formats so it was easy for a captain to manage. Now there are 3 formats, If the load on Virat is more than maybe they should try somebody else for the shorter formats. Rohit has been very successful,” said Yuvraj
