Image: Twitter[/caption] Internet Desk: History made at Shillong as Aizawl FC clinched the illusive Hero I-League title with a remarkable fashion as Khalid Jamil's boys turned the things in their favour despite being down by an early goal and a monumental pressure in the other game by their challenger Mohun Bagan in Kolkata. Some unbelievable work rate and determination helped Aizawl to create the history which no other team had achieved in the past from North-East.
The game started in a frantic pace as both the teams were trying to draw the first blood. But it was the top goal scorer of the Hero I-League 2017 Dipanda Dicka who scored a gem of a goal to give the home team the all important lead in the 9th minute. It all started after some quick passing between Samuela and Redeem. Samuela released the ball for the latter down the left flank. The youngster did well to get past the first defender and his inch perfect cross was headed in to the back of the net by none other than Dicka. The home fans  too became euphoric while the away fans were stunned.
Aizawl pounced on their arch-rivals immediately after conceding that opening goal. Though Lajong was putting pressure with some quick counter attacks. In tthe 25th minute, Isaac stepped up to take the free kick and hit it over the wall and then curled it at the far side of Albino Gomes who did amazingly well to get his hands on the ball and to save his team's blushes.
Aizawl had their best chance of the first half in the 31st minute. Lal Ralte teed up Mahmoud Al Amna beautifully after a quick counter by the away side. The Syrian hit it on the half volley but his shot dipped too late and went over and behind the goal.
In the 37th minute, Aizawl got another golden opportunity but Redeem came up with an all important "goal line clearance" for the home side, as an effort by Kamo nearly crept into the goal. Vishal Kaith then saved the loose ball and cleared the anxiety in the box.
Aizawl started to come up with rejuvenated strengths in the second half. On the 57th minute, Kamo with his physical strength easily outmuscled two Lajong defenders inside the Lajong box before laying it off for Lal Ralte whose cross was half cleared. Jayesh Rane then showed some sublime skills and passed the ball to Mahmoud who lost possession. Lajong counterd and DIcka and Kingsley tussled for the ball inside the AIzawl box before both fell down and Gomes saves the danger.
Aizawl kept battling on and in the 64th minute, Lal Ralte fired a shot from point blank range and Vishal Kaith did wonderfully well to get down and collect the ball. Though an Aizawl FC goal was ruled offside though in the 60th minute. The illusive moment came in the 67th minute after a free kick came off the post and William was there to hit the ball home from close range. The Aizawl fans and the entire team to started celebrating wildly.
In the 79th minute, Kamo had the chance to double the score of his team but instead of hitting a volley at the bounce he opted for a placement shot to beat Vishal and his effort went over the bar.
Aizawl's heart came onto the mouth in the final minutes of the added time when Lajong's Dicka's shot came off the frame of the goal. But seconds later, a fairy tale was completed with the final whistle of referee Pranjal Banerjee, as the joy of the Aizawl FC fans knew no bounds. The team who was almost relegated from the league last seasonm has given a lesson to sll the teams of the country, that perseverance and honest effort can result impossibles.
