Kolkata: Nothing is going in East Bengal's favour, as the club now have to find another new coach after the unfortunate injury of the new interim coach Mridul Banerjee. Today, in the demo shooting training, his left ankle suddenly got stuck into the ground and he fell down quite awkwardly. He was immediately taken to the hospital for an MRI scan. Unfortunately it was found that he had a tear in his Achilles Tendon fibre tissue and will possibly be out for a month now. The Advisory Committee too is not hopeful of getting him back on the hot seat.
After reverting the scan report, Dr. Shanti Ranjan Dasgupta said, "Yes he has a tear in his Achilles Tendon fibre tissue and will have to take rest for minimum of four weeks if not more. I don't think it will be possible for him to continue his job anymore." Advisory Committee member Manoranjan Bhattacharya said, "Yes, considering the injury, I think we have to look for a new coach now. I don't think he can continue."
Legendary goalkeeper Bhaskar Ganguly, who is also a member of the newly formed Advisory Committee, said, "Yes, the injury he got, I don't think he can work anymore right now. Myself, Manoranjan and Tushar will sit and discuss about the options which are available now to replace him and then will inform that to our club."
On the other hand, Mridul said, "Yes, this was perhaps my fate. It is so unfortunate. I had a great team and I started to dream of doing something special with the time I had but considering the condition I'm in at the moment, it is very disappointing." He added, "I am thankful to East Bengal club with the way they have taken care of me after I got injured."
Now it is to see who comes to replace Mridul for the two remaining I-League games and the Federation Cup.
