According to Norde, “East Bengal is playing well at the moment and deserves to be on top of the I League.” East Bengal has removed the arch rivals from the top position in the I League table. The Red and Golds are on 16 points from 6 matches followed by Mohun Bagan, who are on 13 points from 5 matches. Both teams will go head to head against each other in the season’s first derby at Siliguri on February 12. Norde added, “It’s good because now the actual competition will start. If Mohun Bagan is on top every year, it’s not good for the game. We will have to pull up our socks and give our best to win all the matches.” Norde, who missed the AFC Cup tie due to a hamstring injury, is feeling a lot better now. The Haiti international was seen practicing with the team today at Rabindra Sarobar Stadium. Whether he will play against Aizawl on February 04 will depend upon the gaffer. “I will have a word with Sony at the practice session tomorrow to find out how he is feeling. We have the AFC match coming up on February 7 before the derby. So I have to keep all my resources recharged,” said Sanjay Sen. Sony himself is confident about taking the field against Aizawl FC on Saturday. “I am feeling a lot better now. I trained with the players today and will be practicing tomorrow as well to see whether I have any concerns or not. It’s upto the coach to decide whether he will play me or not,” said Norde about his chances of playing. He further added, “It is not about who play a particular match but the important thing is getting three points. The coach will know who a better option is depending upon the stature of the match.” The Haiti international stressed on the importance of being in a positive frame of mind every time the team gets on the field. According to Norde, “The strikers need to be more aggressive and score goals. Our defenders have done well in the last 3 matches. We have to take a bigger responsibility and play more aggressive football and score more goals.”
