After tea, the two wise men felt that no game was possible on Day One and called off the first day’s play. They also announced that in order to compensate for the loss, the match will begin half an hour before the scheduled time tomorrow, that is at 10:30 am local time and toss will happen at 10:00 am local time. The effort on next four days will be to get at least 98 overs being bowled each day so as to compensate for the time lost. The forecast for Day Two is also not very encouraging, with intermittent showers being predicted. However, the forecast for the remaining days is good with rains hopefully staying away from the Hagley Oval and allowing some action. However, fine weather is forecast for the remaining four days and the umpires are hopeful of making up much of the lost time. Play on Friday will begin 30 minutes early at 10.30am (2130 GMT Thursday). Pakistan are on a high coming into the Test after crushing the West Indies last month, while New Zealand are hoping for improvement after a disastrous tour of India.
