India will play their 500th Test Match. India, ever since stepping into the test arena in 1932, has come a long way since its inception. The seven decades in top flight cricket have seen India make giant strides from minnows to world beaters both on home friendly and hostile overseas conditions. Celebrating this landmark moment, xtratime.in have picked up a ‘Dream Indian Test Team’ by selecting the best eleven cricketers who donned the whites for Team India in the longer format and contributed immensely to the success of the team over its course of history. For selecting the team we have gone beyond statistics and selected those cricketers who had a significant impact in shaping up the history of Indian Test cricket. Dream Indian Test Team - Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli(C),VVS Laxman, Kapil Dev, Syed Kirmani (wicket-keeper), Anil Kumble, Zaheer Khan and Erapalli Prasanna

1. Sunil Gavaskar
unnamed (1) Sunil Gavaskar played for the Indian Cricket Team and the Bombay Cricket Team during 1970s to 1980s. He is the first man to score 10000 runs in Test cricket and the most number of Test centuries (34) till another iconic figure of India and World cricket Sachin Tendulkar broke his record. He made his debut for India at Port of Spain against West Indies in 1971.In his 125 Test matches, he scored a total of 10122 runs with an average of 51.12. He was also the ICC Match Referee, BCCI President and chairman of ICC cricket committee too and now he works as a cricket commentator and analyst.   2. Virender Sehwag  unnamed (2)  Virender Sehwag started his test career at Mangaung Oval against the South Africans on 3rd November, 2001. His philosophy in every format of the game was just to hit the ball hard if it is in his hitting zone, It didn’t matter to him in which score he is batting. Viru holds the record of the highest score made by an Indian in Test cricket 319 against South Africa at Chennai, which was also the fastest triple century by any batsman in the history of world cricket. In his 104 Test matches he scored a total of 8586 runs with an average of 49.34 and had scored 17 tons, 4 double tons and 2 tripple tons  3. Rahul Dravid unnamed (4) Rahul Dravid started his test career along with another cricketing icon Sourav Ganguly at England’s Lord’s cricket ground on 20th June, 1996. Before ending his Test career at Australia’s Adelaide Oval on January 24th, 2012 he established himself as one of the greatest Test cricketer of all time for India as well as World cricket. His records speaks for him as in 164 tests he scored a mammoth total of 13288 along with 36 test centuries and 5 double hundreds as well. He is also known as the “ Wall “  4. Sachin Tendulkar  unnamed (5) Sachin Tendulkar is known as Mr Indian Cricket as he had achived many greatness while playing for the tri colour. Sachin debuted for India just at the age of 16 against the arch rival Pakistan at the National Stadium on November 15th ,1989 and represented his country for two and a half decades till he played his last test match against the West Indies at Wankhede Stadium on November 15th, 2013 . During his career he  gave us many memorable moments to cheer for India in Test cricket like 248* against Bangladesh at Dhaka, 241* against Australia in Sydney Cricket Ground and many more . In his 200 Test matches he scored 15921 runs with 51 centuries and 6 double tons.  5. Virat Kohli(C) unnamed (6)  Virat is presently captaining the Indian squad in tests and is also known as the poster boy of the present Indian generation. Virat made his test debue against the West Indians at Sabaina Park on June 20th,, 2011. His test career might have had some ups and downs, but now he is establishing himself as a match winner in test cricket too. Till now he has played 45 Test for his country and scored 3245 runs with an average of 45.07 and has scored 12 centuries and a double tone till now. Among them 169 against Australia at MCG and 141 in Adelaide Oval was the best of all.   6.  VVS Laxman unnamed (7)  VVS Laxman was one of the most under rated but versetile player Indian cricket  have ever had. He started his test career in 1996 against South Africa at Sardar Patel Stadium. In his career he played 134 Matches for India where he scored a total of 8781 runs with an average of 49.37 and had scored 17 tons and 2 double tons. His name will be unforgettable for his innings of 281 at Eden Gardens against Steve Waugh’s Australia where the mighty aussies finally bow down to the Indians in that epic match.   7. Syed Kirmani unnamed (3)  Syed Kirmani also known as “KIri” is usually regarded as one of the finest cricketer India have ever produced. Kirmani made his debut at Eden Park against the Kiwis on 1976, and equaled the world record as he was a part in getting out six New Zealand players anyway in that innings.In his 88 test matches he scored 2759 runs, with a high score of 102 runs vs England in Mumbai.   8. Kapil Dev unnamed (8)  Kapil Dev was India’s best fast bowler , best all-rounder and and known as one of the best captains India have ever produced. Kapil Dev made his debut against Pakistan in 1978 at Faisalabad.In his 131 Test matches he scored 5248 runs with an average of 31.05 and took 434 wickets. His high score was 163 vs Sri Lanka at Kanpur and his best bowling figure in an innings was 6 for 83 against the West Indies at Ahmedabad.   9. Anil Kumble unnamed (9) Anil Kumble also known as Jumbo is now the head coach of Indian Cricket Team. He is known as one of the greatest match winners India ever had. He made his debut at Old Trafford, Manchester against England in 1990 where he took 3 wickets in the game. In his 132 Test matches he took 619 wickets most by any Indian player and also scroed 2506 runs,with a century in his kitty. His best bowling figure in an innings was 10 for 74 vs Pakistan at Delhi in 1999.   10. Zaheer Khan unnamed (10) Zaheer Khan is one of the best fast bowlers India have ever produced. His ability to bowl fast, and to bowl yorkers at the death marked him out as a different breed of fast bowler than the ones Indians were used to seeing. He started his Test career against Bangladesh at Dhaka in the year 2000, where he took 3 wickets in the match. In his 92 Test matches he took 311 wickets with an average of 32.94,as of his batting abilities he scored 1231 runs with a high score of 75. His best bowling figure in an innings was 6 for 49 vs Bangladesh at Dhaka in 2000.   11. Erapalli Prasanna unnamed (11) Erapalli Prasanna was one of India's legendary spinners and along with Venkataraghavan, Prasanna was an off spinner. He made his debut against England at Chennai in 1962. In his 49 Test matches he took 189 wickets with an average of 30.38. His best bowling figure in an innings was 8 for 76 against New Zealand at Auckland in 1976.
