Xtra Time[/caption] Kolkata: The 2016 edition of the Calcutta Premier League will certainly be a one to forget for its organisers i.e. the Indian Football Association (IFA). With much of the water yet to pass under the bridge regarding the whole East Bengal vs. Mohun Bagan fixture fiasco, it seems that the IFA has entangled itself in yet another fixture-oriented debacle. Although the IFA officials are yet to make an official announcement but it seems that the East Bengal vs. Mohammedan Sporting fixture which was originally scheduled to be held on 11th September 2016 will be postponed to the 18th day of the same month due to the Muslim event of Eid-al-Adha being declared on the 12th. Also, the Mohun Bagan-Mohammedan Sporting fixture is likely to be rescheduled on the 15th of September instead of the 14th. It has been anticipated that the governing body of West Bengal Football will officially announce the change of schedule tomorrow. IFA Secretary Mr. Utpal Ganguly has said, “The fixture between East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting is likely to be rescheduled due to Eid-al-Adha since neither of the Nadia and North 24 Parganas police can be deployed due to various religious and political issues.” “We wanted the fixture to remain unchanged and therefore had talks with the organisers in other places such as Barasat and Siliguri. But we situation is more-or-less the same everywhere and therefore we couldn’t boil down to a conclusion,” he later added. When asked whether the IFA officials check the calendar for various religious events while formulating a league fixture, Ganguly admitted, “I have to say that this particular event had slipped our notice while compiling the 2016 Calcutta League Fixture.” When asked to provide his reaction on the same topic, Mohun Bagan’s General Secretary, Mr. Anjan Mitra said, “At first I thought the Calcutta Premier League is a tournament which is organised by FIFA and not IFA where the tournament rules and fixtures cannot be broken. But IFA has proved that it has one set of rules for Mohun Bagan AC and another set for the rest of the clubs. However, we have decided that we will play in spite of everything that is going on.” East Bengal who plays Aryan on 14th September had its first match of the Bordoloi Cup scheduled on the 18th. When asked whether they will take any against the change of its Mohammedan Sporting clash, one of Red and Gold’s official, Mr. Debabrata Sarkar said, “We will not go against our parent body i.e. the IFA. For East Bengal, Calcutta Premier League is more important than Bordoloi Cup.” Also, when asked when will they release their footballers who have been contracted in the Indian Super League, Sarkar said, “We will take a decision on 14th September.” On this note, it should be said that East Bengal just needs a single win out of their two fixtures against Aryan and Mohammedan Sporting to seal yet another Calcutta League title.
