Although the suspicion of Zika virus tested negative after she was admitted to hospital soon after her return to India. The long distance runner of India who participated in 3000m steeplechase run at Rio 2016 was suffering from fever. Along with that she had severe body ache, weakness, dehydration and was extremely fatigued after returning to India on 18th August. She was admitted to an isolation room at a major hospital, by Sports Authority of India officials following her illness. “A blood sample tested at the virology lab at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences in Bengaluru has tested positive for the H1N1 virus while a blood sample sent to the National Institute for Virology in Pune has tested negative for the Zika virus,” the deputy director for disease surveillance in Karnataka, Dr Harshavardhan said. Another physician Dr. Sarala of SAI said, "It will take Sudha Singh two to three weeks to get discharged from the hospital, depending upon her health condition”. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah asked Karnataka Olympic Association President Govinda Raju to visit the hospital and ensure best medical care for her. The state government will bear the medical expenses of Sudha.
