Even the Indian football fraternity expressed their shock after Messi's sudden retirement from In International football following a loss in the final of Copa America 2016. Following are the reactions from various present and former Indian footballers and coaches: Baichung Bhutia: Its a surprise decision. He has taken the decision emotionally. He looked emotional after missing the first penalty. The retirement is the result of that frustration. Its a huge loss to World football. Kids love for football is due to Mess. Their interest for football is for Messi. Bruno Coutinho: He could have easily played for five more years. I don't know why he took this decision. Football lovers used to love the duel of Messi and Ronaldo. He may come back from retirement. Subrata Bhattacharya: In the International football people will miss the art of playing football which Messi used to produce. But he will be playing in the club football. It would have been nice if he would have not taken this decision. With his retirement, world football will miss the entertainment of football. Subhash Bhowmick: He has taken this harsh decision out of frustration. It would have been good if he wouldn't have taken such decision. He has just celebrated his 29th birthday few days back. Football will miss him but he won't miss football. But I feel he might change his decision. Jeje Lalpekhlua: Feeling really disappointed with his decision. I just cannot imagine that he will not play the World Cup in 2018. He would not have taken this decision so quickly. Subrata Paul: Critics will say that he has not done anything for his country. I have watched him playing for Barcelona for so many years but the way he ran today I have not seen him so much enthusiastic in the field before. He should have ended his career being a champion in any major tournament. This was the not the script set for him. I feel  he will come back from retirement. Every coach wants a player like Messi in the squad. Trevor James Morgan: Now he has broken the all time goal scoring record for Argentina, it makes sense he will now take well earned rests during the off season so he can continue to perform at the top level for Barcelona. Sanjoy Sen: It's a black day for World football. I just cannot imagine 2018 World Cup without Messi. If Messi does not play, the whole attraction would be lost. For the sake of football, Messi should come back from retirement like Zidane and serve his country.
