Kolkata: Indian Super League franchise Atletico de Kolkata has come forward to support the charity fundraising auction organized by xtratime.in for the treatment of Bapi Maji. The city based franchise has donated a couple of jerseys signed by Brazilian football legend Pele.  Both the Brazilian national team jersey and Atletico jersey have his signature on them. Along with the jerseys the inaugural ISL champions has also donated a football signed by the legendary footballer.

Atletico De Kolkata Secretary, Subrata Talukdar said, "Football fans should not be discriminated by virtue of the club they support. First and last, they are football lovers and the disease from which these fans are suffering from is very dangerous. we are always by their side."

Atletico has also donated signed jerseys of their star recruits of last season – Canadian Iain Hume and Portugese striker Helder Postiga. Hume enthralled the fans with his goal scoring ability, scoring 11 goals from 16 matches. Atletico’s marquee footballer Helder Postiga started the season well scoring a brace against Chennaiyin FC. But an injury to his hamstring sidelined him for the rest of the tournament.

The die-hard Mohun Bagan fan, who is diagnosed with stomach cancer few months back is presently under treatment. He has undergone a series of successful chemotherapy. As doctors prescribed he will have to undergo more of chemo.

The charity fundraising auction will take place at a Central Kolkata hotel on June 11. Former India cricketer Sourav Ganguly and India’s football icon Bhaichung Bhutia will be present on the occasion.

The amount raised from the auction will be handed over to Bapi Majhi for his treatment as well as to Alip Chakraborty’s family, who lost the battle with cancer a week back. Alip is survived by his wife and son. Alip was diagnosed with tongue cancer in November last year.
