A few people would have thought that India will reach the knock-outs. On this very day the Indian cricket team proved everybody wrong and clinched the World Cup title by beating mighty West Indies against all the odds. Here is a look at the members of the famous World Cup winning team and what keeps them busy now. 1. Kapil Dev [caption id="attachment_48388" align="aligncenter" width="580"] Image Source: twitter[/caption] 1983 World Cup winning Kapil Dev is now a successful business man and commentator. After his retirement he served as the head coach of the national team for quite some time. Kapil has a restaurant in Chandigarh named Kapil’s Eleven and has a hotel named Kaptain’s Retreat Hotel in Chandigarh. He has company named Dev Musco Lighting that installs floodlights in top stadiums in India right now. 2. Sunil Gavaskar [caption id="attachment_38780" align="aligncenter" width="580"] File Pic[/caption] Sunil Gavaskar was one of the best batsmen of his genre. After his retirement Gavaskar became the sheriff of Mumbai. He also became the Vice-president of the MCA, BCCI president, ICC match referee and Chairman of ICC cricket committee. Gavaskar is also doing commentary these days. 3. Mohinder Amarnath [caption id="attachment_48389" align="aligncenter" width="580"] File Pic[/caption] Amarnath was the vice-captain of the team and man of the match winner of the 1983 World Cup final. Now days he works as a cricket analyst in many news channels. He worked as a member of the selection committee too. 4. Sandip Patil [caption id="attachment_16216" align="aligncenter" width="580"] File Pic[/caption] The fiery middle order batsman Sandip Patil was one of the important members of the 1983 World Cup winning team. After the retirement he became the coach of the Kenya team and took the team to the semi-finals of the 2003 World Cup. Patil also became the Chairman of the selection committee of BCCI for quite some time. 5. Yashpal Sharma [caption id="attachment_48390" align="aligncenter" width="580"] File Pic[/caption] After he retired from the game, he became an umpire for a time and has served as a selector for the Indian national team. In the 1983 World Cup he played a brilliant knock of 89 runs which helped India to beat the mighty West Indies in their first match. It was West Indies’s first loss in World Cup history. 6. Krishnamachari Srikkanth [caption id="attachment_48391" align="aligncenter" width="580"] File Pic[/caption] The fiery opener played many valuable knocks in the World Cup. After his retirement he became the coach of India ‘A’ team. Srikkanth was also appointed as the Chief Selector of the Indian Cricket team and he was in the chair from 2008 to 2012. 7. Kirti Azad [caption id="attachment_48392" align="aligncenter" width="580"] File Pic[/caption] Azad was a vital member of the Indian team that won 1983 World Cup by beating West Indies. After his retirement Azad became a successful politician and he is now serving his third term in Lok Sabha. 8. Roger Binny [caption id="attachment_48393" align="aligncenter" width="580"] File Pic[/caption] Roger Binny was the most successful bowler for his side in the World Cup. He took 18 wickets in the competition. Though he did very good in the World Cup but failed to hold his spot in the team for long. After his retirement he became the member of BCCI’s team selection committee. 9. Madan Lal [caption id="attachment_48394" align="aligncenter" width="580"] File Pic[/caption] He is another member of 1983 World Cup winning team. After his retirement he became the coach of UAE side for 1996 World Cup. Later he became the coach of Indian cricket team for one year between September and September 1997. Lal has a cricket academy in Siri Sports Complex, at New Delhi. 10. Syed Kirmani [caption id="attachment_3303" align="aligncenter" width="580"] File Pic[/caption] Syed Kirmani was the automatic choice as a wicket-keeper for India in the World Cup. After his retirement he was appointed as the Public Relations Manager. Kirmani was the vice president of KSCA and also the chairman of the national selection committee. 11. Balwinder Sindhu [caption id="attachment_48395" align="aligncenter" width="580"] File Pic[/caption] Sindhu bowled extremely well in the finals when he took two wickets from 9 overs 31 runs with a maiden over. He is best remembered for his dismissal of Gordon Greenidge by a banana in swinger. His second victim was Faoud Bacchus. After retirement, he served as the coach of Mumbai and Punjab and also worked with the National Cricket Academy. Today, he lives a peaceful life at his home in Mumbai.
