The game ended up in a 0-0 draw but could have been ended in favour of the local side had the fortunes gone in their favour. The Mariners, who were having a purple patch of winning four consecutive games on a trot, stumbles in front of a spirited Pune outfit who seemed desperate to make a positive impact against a mighty opposition like Mohun Bagan. The home side made their intentions clear as early as in the 20th second of the game when Spanish midfielder Juan Quero missed a golden opportunity to take the lead as his shot went inches wide of the far post. The first half saw some incessant pressure from DSK but Rogers' side couldn't reflect that into a goal. Mohun Bagan first got their chance in the 30th minute, when Brazilian defender's weak header went just over the bar. DSK came perilously close to score in the 38th minute of the game when Korean forward Kim Son Yong's shot came of the frame of the goal and Juan Quero failed to put the ball at the open net as Debjit was lying helplessly on the ground. DSK's Serbian defender Sasa Kolunija played a brilliant game at the back four and was well complemented by Nirmal Chettri who hardly allowed Sony Norde to create any danger from the left. In the second half, DSK resumed their good work which they had in the first half, and the inclusion of Lallianzuala Chhangte added some special spice in their attack. In the 61st minute, Chhangte missed an open sitter, when Quero delivered a great cross from the left and Kim flicked the ball to Chhangte who was nicely positioned, but his shot was straight to the goalkeeper Debjit. Mohun Bagan had a positive spell of ten minutes as they got three good chances from the 70th to 80th minute. In the 71st minute, Sony Norde made a darting run which was followed by a fine shot, but DSK custodian Soram Poirei saved the shot. In the 79th minute, Norde delivered another very good cross from the left but Bikramjit's shot came off the post. The best chance for the Mariners came in the 80th minute when Katsumi Yusa failed to score from a handshaking distance with the goalkeeper. The goal-less draw would certainly make the East Bengal and Bengaluru FC fans happy, as it opened a great opportunity for them to catch up the Green and Maroon brigade on the top of the league table. Though the Mariners are still on top with 13 points from 5 games.
