Xtra Time Web Desk : MS Dhoni turned back the clock to his vintage days as he got the Chennai Super Kings over the line in a last-ball thrilling run chase versus arch-rivals Mumbai Indians on Thursday night. Needing 16 runs from the last four balls, Dhoni smashed Unadkat for 6, 4, 2, 4, taking CSK home once again rekindling the discussion he is still the best finisher.

Former and current cricketers hailed Dhoni the finisher. For someone as Dhoni’s age, it is simply amazing to see him finish games. But the burning topic is Dhoni, who still has not lost his ability to finish matches play in the next edition of IPL. The talisman has already handed over the captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja ahead of the IPL 2022 season, it is more or less confirmed that Dhoni will not play in the next edition of the tournament in 2023.

Dhoni is like a family to Chennai Super Kings having been associated with the franchise since the inaugural edition of IPL in 2008. He captained Chennai Super Kings for over 200 matches in the Indian Premier League and holds a winning percentage of almost 60%. To put the cherry on the top, he has won the IPL title four times for the Chennai Super Kings, which came in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021. Apart from this, CSK ended up as runners-up five times as well, including the first-ever IPL season in 2008.

With MS Dhoni, one never knows what is in store ahead. He announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2020, without anyone having a semblance of a hint. He continued this trend as he announced his exit from CSK captaincy in an inimitable fashion. But his decision to hand over the CSK leadership to Jadeja raises questions over his IPL future.

While the world still remains clueless over MSD’s future in the IPL, a CSK official has earlier said, It’s his call. They can’t make a comment on when he will take that call. For them, it’s important that MS plays for many years. But he hasn’t conveyed yet when he will take the call.
