Xtra Time Web Desk : Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday sealed a thrashing 6 wicket win over defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the season opener of the Indian Premier League at the Wankhede stadium.

Winning the toss against debutant CSK captain Ravindra Jadeja, new KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer put his opponents to bat first. The Kolkata franchise however bowled brilliantly as Umesh Yadav took the Orange Cap winner Ruturaj Gaikwad's wicket in the first over itself to set the tone for the rest of the match.

Wickets kept on tumbling for the defending champions, before former skipper MS Dhoni who scored a brilliant 50 off 38 balls struck a partnership along with the skipper Jadeja to take them to a respectable total of 131 for the loss of 5 wickets in their 20 overs.

Coming in to bat second, experienced Ajinkya Rahane and swashbuckling Venkatesh Iyer scored quickly to build the foundation of 43 runs the powerplay, before Dwayne Bravo took the wicket of Iyer for the score of 16.

Rahane however was in fine form, after initial struggles and went on to score 44 off 34 balls. Batters in Sam Billings and Nitish Rana chipped in to score some quick runs before skipper Shreyas Iyer scored the winning runs to hand KKR a thrashing 6 wicket victory in their season opener.
