Xtra Time Web Desk : BCCI on Wednesday announced Rohit Sharma as Team India's new ODI Captain thus ending the Virat Kohli era in the white ball format. Along with this decision, discussions have been taking place as to who would be Rohit's deputy in the 50 over format. And as per several reports, KL Rahul is set to be named as the next ODI Vice Captain.

Previously Rishabh Pant's name was also in the discussions, but there are reasons as to why he would not likely be Rohit Sharma's deputy primarily because of his age and experience. Also the Karnataka batter is the T20I vice captain, which again plays an important role in this matter.

And speaking about KL Rahul in an interview with InsideSport, a senior BCCI official said, "KL (Rahul) will be the next vice-captain. It was an obvious choice in white-ball formats. He has done excellently over the last few years. He has 6-7 years left in him and can be groomed to become the next captain. With Rohit and Virat around besides Dravid, he will learn a lot."

Also speaking about the Delhi Capitals captain, he added, "Rishabh is very young and at this stage, giving him extra responsibility could become a burden for him. With the seniors around, he will learn a lot. Personally, I don’t think it would have been the right call to hand over the responsibility as the vice-captain will have to lead at some point when seniors like Rohit are rested."
