Xtra Time Web Desk: Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has slammed the Indian team management for shuffling with the batting order especially the trusted opening pair of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul in Sunday’s crucial game against New Zealand. The BlackCaps totally outplayed India to win the match by 8 wickets. The loss meant Virat Kohli and his boys not only have to win their remaining three matches against Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia but will also have to rely on the outcome of other group league matches.

Former India opener Sunil Gavaskar felt that the decision to demote Rohit Sharma from the opening slot by the Indian team management was totally uncalled for. The legendary cricketer felt the team management did not trust Rohit to effectively counter left-arm New Zealand pacer Trent Boult.

Ishan Kishan was sent with KL Rahul to open the innings for India. The move to promote Ishan did not work at all as he failed to score big. The entire Indian batting line up failed to click succumbing to the disciplined bowling by the BlackCaps.

“Ishan Kishan is a hit-or-miss player and it is better if a batsman like him walks in No.4 or No.5. He could then play according to the situation of the game. Now what has happened is that Rohit Sharma has been told that we don’t trust you to face the left-arm fast bowling of Trent Boult,” Gavaskar told Sports Tak.
