Xtra Time Web Desk: A brilliant spell of fast bowling from Trent Boult set the platform for a convincing 10 wickets win for Mumbai Indians against Chennai Super Kings in Match 41 of the IPL 2020 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday. MI openers Ishan Kishan (68 off 37) and Quinton de Kock (46 from 37) had no trouble whatsoever in achieving the target of 115 runs with almost 8 overs to spare.

It was an absolute dominating performance from the four time IPL champions as they cruised to the top of the points table with 14 points from 10 games. It was a forgetful campaign for the MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as they failed to make it to the PlayOffs for the very first time in the history of the cash rich league.

Earlier Kieron Pollard who captained the MI side in the absence of an injured Rohit Sharma did not hesitate to put CSK into bat first. His decision paid off as MI made a cracking start with Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah picking four wickets in the first three overs. None of the Chennai batsmen got going except for Sam Curran who put in a lone fight with the bat scoring 57 runs off 47 balls. Due to his effort CSK managed to cross the 100 runs mark. Even the three changes to the CSK playing XI did not bring any sea change to its fortunes. Trent Boult was the pick of the Mumbai Indians bowlers returning with figures 4-18-4.

Speaking in the post-match presentation, Dhoni said the team was hurting and rued that nothing went their way this IPL.

"Well it does hurt. What you need to see is what is going wrong, this year hasn't been our year. In only one or two games this year we have batted and bowled well together. Whether you lose by ten wickets or eight wickets it hardly matters," he said.

"All the players are hurting, but they are trying their best. It doesn't always go your way. Hopefully in the next three games we'll try to put our last stand."

Winning captain Kieron Pollard said, “We want to finish top two and it's a matter of getting the points and then think about the opponents. There's always room for improvement, myself making some mistakes on the field, guys not being aware in certain situations. Maybe it's no technical, but it's things you need to speak about."
